1. Acceptance of Terms
These Terms of Service (“Terms”) are a binding legal agreement between you (“User”, “you”, or “your”) and Legal Translation (“Legal Translation”, “we”, “us”, or “our”) governing your access to and use of the Legal Translation web application at legal-translation.net (the “Service”).
By creating an account, clicking “Sign Up”, purchasing credits, or otherwise accessing the Service, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
You must be at least 18 years of age and have the legal capacity to enter into a binding contract to use the Service. By accepting these Terms, you represent and warrant that you meet these requirements.
If you use the Service on behalf of a business or other legal entity, you represent that you have the authority to bind that entity to these Terms, in which case “you” refers to that entity.
2. Definitions
- “Account” means the personal user account you create to access the Service.
- “Content” or “User Content” means any documents, files, text, or other materials you upload, submit, or process through the Service.

- “Credit Package” means a bundle of credits sold at a fixed one-time price as listed on our Pricing page.
- “Fast Mode” means the AI translation mode optimised for speed and lower credit cost, suitable for internal drafts and quick reviews.
- “Professional Mode” means the AI translation mode optimised for accuracy and legal-context depth, suitable for formal documents and official submissions.
- “Personal Data” means any information that identifies or can be used to identify you as an individual, as defined by applicable data protection law including the GDPR.
- “Service” means the Legal Translation hosted web application, including all translation features, account management, billing, and document history tools.
- “Translated Output” means the document or text produced by the Service as a result of processing your Content.
3. Account Registration and Security
To use the Service you must create an account using either your Google account (via Google OAuth) or a valid email address and password. You must provide accurate, current, and complete information during registration and keep your account information up to date.
- Free credits on sign-up: new accounts receive 100 complimentary credits upon registration. These free credits are subject to the same 90-day expiry policy described in Section 5.
- Account security: you are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your login credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account. Notify us immediately at matija.lekovic@gmail.com if you suspect any unauthorised access.
- One account per person: you may not create multiple accounts to circumvent free-credit limits, usage restrictions, or any other policy.
- Account eligibility: we may refuse registration or suspend any account at our discretion if we believe these Terms are being violated.
4. Credits and Billing
The Service operates on a prepaid credit model. You purchase credits in advance and spend them as you translate documents. There are no recurring subscriptions or monthly fees.
| Package | Price (USD) | Credits | Bonus |
|---|---|---|---|
| Starter | $5.00 | 500 credits | — |
| Standard | $10.00 | 1,100 credits | +10% included |
| Professional | $25.00 | 3,000 credits | +20% included |
| Expert | $50.00 | 6,500 credits | +30% included |
- Credit consumption: credits are deducted from your balance when a translation is completed. The number of credits consumed depends on the document length (measured in tokens), the selected translation mode (Fast or Professional), and any applicable modifiers.
- Payment processing: all payments are processed securely by Paddle (our Merchant of Record). We do not store your full card details. A valid credit or debit card is required to complete a purchase.
- All prices in USD: all credit packages are priced in United States Dollars (USD). Your card issuer may apply currency conversion fees if your account is in a different currency.
- Taxes: prices shown do not include any applicable taxes (VAT, GST, or sales tax). You are responsible for any taxes applicable to your purchase under the laws of your jurisdiction.
- Failed payments: if a payment fails or is declined, credits will not be added to your account until payment is successfully completed.
- Credits have no cash value: credits are not a currency, store of value, or financial instrument. They may only be used to access translation services on this platform and cannot be transferred to other users or redeemed for cash.
5. Credit Expiry Policy
All credits in your account — including free sign-up credits and purchased credits — expire 90 days after your most recent credit purchase or credit grant. This is a rolling window: any new credit purchase resets the expiry clock for your entire credit balance.
- How the clock works: when you purchase a credit package, your entire account balance (including any previously unspent credits) is extended by 90 days from the date of that purchase.
- Free sign-up credits: the 100 free credits granted on account creation expire 90 days after sign-up, unless a credit purchase is made before that date (which resets the clock).
- Expiry is automatic: expired credits are permanently removed from your account balance by an automated daily process. We do not send advance warnings before expiry, so please keep track of your expiry date, which is displayed on your Account page.
- No extensions except by purchase: the only way to extend the 90-day window is to purchase a new credit package before your existing credits expire. Expired credits cannot be reinstated.
- No refund of expired credits: credits that have expired are forfeited and are not eligible for a refund. See Section 6 (Refund Policy) for more detail.
We reserve the right to change this expiry policy with at least 30 days' prior notice to users who have an active credit balance. Any change will not affect credits already expiring within the notice period.
6. Refund Policy
All payments are processed by Paddle.com, our Merchant of Record. Refunds are handled by Paddle in accordance with Paddle's buyer terms and applicable consumer protection law. We do not apply a separate internal refund policy with additional qualifiers or exceptions.
- To request a refund, submit your request directly through paddle.net or contact us at matija.lekovic@gmail.com and we will route your request to Paddle.
- If a purchase is refunded, any credits granted for that purchase may be removed from your account.
7. The Translation Service
Legal Translation provides an AI-powered document translation service designed for legal professionals and individuals working with legal documents. The Service currently supports the following:
- Supported file formats: Microsoft Word (.docx), PDF (.pdf), and plain text files (.txt, .md) up to 25 MB per file. DOCX files are translated with full formatting preserved (headings, tables, numbered clauses, bold/italic). PDFs are automatically converted to DOCX before translation.
- Languages: the Service supports 28 languages including English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch, Polish, Czech, Slovak, Slovenian, Hungarian, Serbian, Russian, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Arabic, Turkish, Romanian, Bulgarian, Croatian, Greek, Swedish, Danish, Finnish, Ukrainian, and Hindi. Additional languages may be added over time.
- Translation modes: Fast Mode (powered by Gemini Flash) delivers quick, accurate draft translations at lower credit cost. Professional Mode performs deeper legal-context analysis for court-quality accuracy and uses more credits per page.
- Processing time: most translations complete in under 60 seconds. Processing time may be longer for large documents or during periods of high demand.
- Download period: completed translations are available for download for up to 7 days from the date of processing. After that they are automatically deleted. See Section 13 (Document Storage and Deletion) for full details.
We reserve the right to modify, update, or discontinue features of the Service at any time with reasonable prior notice. We will not reduce the core translation functionality during periods when you hold a positive credit balance without providing at least 30 days' advance notice.
8. AI Translation Disclaimer
Translations are AI-generated and not certified. The Service uses large language models (Google Gemini API) to generate translations. While the Service is specifically optimised for legal terminology, clause structure, and formal register, AI translations may contain errors, omissions, mistranslations, or inaccuracies.
- Not a substitute for professional legal review: translations produced by the Service are not certified, sworn, or officially attested. They must not be used as legally binding translations for court submissions, regulatory filings, or official government proceedings without independent review by a qualified legal professional or certified translator.
- Professional responsibility: if you are a legal professional, you remain solely responsible for the quality, accuracy, and appropriateness of any translated document you use or rely on in your professional capacity.
- No warranty of accuracy: we do not warrant that translated output is free from errors or that it is suitable for any specific legal purpose. See Section 18 (Disclaimers of Warranty) for full details.
- Verify before using: always review AI-generated translations carefully before using them in any formal, legal, or contractual context.
9. Acceptable Use
By using the Service you agree not to:
- use the Service for any illegal purpose or in violation of any applicable law, regulation, or professional conduct rule;
- upload or transmit malware, viruses, exploit code, or any content designed to harm the Service or its infrastructure;
- attempt to reverse engineer, decompile, or extract source code from the Service;
- circumvent, disable, or interfere with security controls, rate limits, or access restrictions;
- create multiple accounts to obtain additional free credits or circumvent any usage limits;
- resell, sublicense, or commercialise access to the Service or your account credentials;
- use automated scripts, bots, or other tools to interact with the Service in a manner not intended or authorised;
- use the Service in a way that imposes an unreasonable or disproportionate load on our infrastructure;
- use the Service to build or train a competing AI translation product;
- use the Service to process documents containing child sexual abuse material or any other content that is illegal under applicable law.
We may investigate suspected violations and may suspend or terminate your account without notice if we have reasonable grounds to believe you have violated this section.
10. Your Content and Documents
You retain ownership of your content. By uploading documents to the Service, you do not transfer ownership of those documents or their contents to us. You retain all intellectual property rights in your original documents and in the translations we generate for you.
- Licence to process: by uploading content, you grant us a limited, temporary, non-exclusive licence to process your documents solely for the purpose of providing the translation service to you. This licence ends when your documents are deleted in accordance with Section 13.
- Your responsibility for content: you represent and warrant that you have all necessary rights, permissions, and authorisations to upload and process the documents you submit, including any confidentiality obligations or attorney-client privilege considerations that may apply.
- Sensitive and privileged content: you are responsible for assessing whether it is appropriate to upload documents that contain privileged, confidential, or highly sensitive information. We maintain strict technical and contractual safeguards (see Sections 12, 14, and 15), but you should conduct your own due diligence before uploading legally privileged material.
- No unlawful content: you must not upload documents whose processing would violate applicable law, infringe third-party intellectual property rights, or breach any confidentiality obligation you owe to another party without that party's consent.
11. Privacy and Data Processing
We process personal data in accordance with applicable data protection law, including the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) where applicable.
- Account data: we collect and store your email address, display name, profile picture (if using Google OAuth), and account activity data. This data is used to operate your account, process payments, and communicate with you about the Service.
- Document data: uploaded documents and generated translations are processed and temporarily stored solely to provide the translation service. They are not shared with other users and are deleted after 7 days (see Section 13).
- Payment data: payment transactions are processed by Paddle (Merchant of Record). We receive only a summary of completed transactions (amount, currency, status). We do not store your full card details.
- Usage and audit logs: we maintain structured logs of API calls, credit usage, and security events for operational and billing integrity purposes. These logs may be retained beyond the document retention period for compliance reasons.
- Your rights: you have the right to access, rectify, erase, and port your personal data, and to object to or restrict processing, subject to applicable law. To exercise these rights, contact us at matija.lekovic@gmail.com.
- Lawful basis: we process your personal data on the basis of contract performance (to provide the Service you requested), legitimate interests (security, fraud prevention, and service improvement), and legal obligations (tax and accounting records).
- Data transfers: by using the Service, your data may be processed by our subprocessors in locations outside your country, including outside the EEA. We ensure that appropriate transfer safeguards (such as Standard Contractual Clauses) are in place.
For detailed information about how we collect, use, and protect your personal data, please refer to our Privacy Policy.
12. No AI Training on Your Documents
We do not use your documents to train AI models. This is a firm commitment and applies to all content you submit to the Service.
- Your original documents and translated outputs are not used to train, fine-tune, retrain, or improve any AI or machine learning model — by us or by any of our subprocessors.
- Your content is not used for advertising, commercial profiling, or marketing purposes.
- Your document content is not mined for analytics beyond what is strictly necessary for system reliability, performance monitoring, security, and billing integrity.
- We require our AI model provider (Google / Gemini API) to contractually commit that content submitted via the API is not retained or used for model training. Google's API usage policies apply; you can review them at ai.google.dev/terms.
- We will notify you if our AI provider modifies its data usage policies in a way that affects these commitments.
13. Document Storage and Deletion
Uploaded source documents and translated output files are stored securely for up to 7 calendar days from the date of processing, then permanently and automatically deleted.
- Download before deletion: you can download your translated documents at any time within the 7-day window via your document history on the Account page. We strongly recommend downloading important translations promptly.
- No recovery after deletion: once a document has been deleted, it cannot be recovered. We do not maintain backups of deleted user content.
- Early deletion request: you may request early deletion of specific documents by contacting matija.lekovic@gmail.com. We will process such requests within 5 business days.
- Account deletion: if you delete your account, all your documents and translations will be immediately queued for deletion. This process completes within 30 days. Billing records and audit logs may be retained for up to 7 years as required by applicable accounting and tax law.
- What is retained longer: billing transaction records, credit purchase history, and anonymised usage statistics (containing no document content) may be retained beyond the 7-day period for financial compliance, fraud prevention, and service improvement purposes.
14. Security Measures
We implement and maintain administrative, technical, and organisational security measures designed to protect your content and personal data against unauthorised access, loss, alteration, or destruction. These measures include:
- Encryption in transit: all communications between your browser and our servers are encrypted using TLS 1.3.
- Encryption at rest: all stored documents and personal data are encrypted at rest using AES-256.
- Private file storage: translated output files are stored in private cloud storage accessible only via signed, time-limited download URLs. No file is publicly accessible by URL.
- Access controls: access to your data is strictly limited to authenticated API calls using your session token. Our internal staff access to production data is controlled and audited.
- Audit logging: all significant API actions (authentication, translation requests, billing events) are recorded in structured audit logs for security monitoring.
- Security incident response: in the event of a data breach affecting your personal data, we will notify you without undue delay and in any event within 72 hours of confirmation, as required by the GDPR.
While we implement strong security measures, no internet-based service can guarantee absolute security. You are also responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials.
15. Subprocessors
We use the following third-party service providers (“Subprocessors”) to operate the Service. Each is bound by data protection obligations consistent with these Terms:
- Google / Gemini API — AI translation processing. Your document content is transmitted to the Gemini API for translation and is subject to the no-training commitment in Section 12.
- Supabase — user authentication, account and credit data storage, document translation history, and file storage (Supabase Storage with signed URLs).
- Paddle — payment processing (Merchant of Record). Paddle processes your payment card data directly under PCI DSS compliance and handles VAT/tax obligations. We do not store your card details.
- Vercel — application hosting and serverless function execution. Source code is deployed and executed on Vercel's edge infrastructure.
We will notify you of material changes to our subprocessors that affect the handling of your personal data or document content with at least 30 days' notice where practicable.
16. Intellectual Property
Our IP: the Service, including its source code, user interface, design, underlying algorithms, and all associated documentation, is owned by Legal Translation and protected by intellectual property laws. Nothing in these Terms grants you any ownership interest in the Service.
Your IP: you retain full ownership of your original documents and all translated output generated by the Service for you. We make no claim of ownership over your content or translations.
Feedback: if you voluntarily provide feedback, suggestions, or feature ideas, you grant us a perpetual, irrevocable, royalty-free licence to use that feedback to improve the Service. This does not involve disclosure of your document content.
Trademarks: “Legal Translation” and associated logos are our trademarks. You may not use our name, logo, or branding without our prior written permission.
17. Term and Termination
These Terms begin when you create your account and continue until your account is closed, either by you or by us.
- Termination by you: you may close your account at any time from the Account Settings page or by contacting us at matija.lekovic@gmail.com. Account closure results in the forfeiture of any unused credits. We do not refund unused credits on voluntary account closure.
- Termination or suspension by us: we may suspend or terminate your account if you violate these Terms, engage in fraudulent or abusive behaviour, fail to pay for a credit purchase, or if required by law. Where possible, we will provide reasonable prior notice and an opportunity to cure, except in cases of fraud, illegal activity, or imminent security threats.
- Effect of termination: on termination, your right to access the Service ceases immediately, your unused credits are forfeited, and your documents will be deleted in accordance with Section 13.
- Survival: the following sections survive termination: Definitions, Credit Expiry Policy, Refund Policy, AI Translation Disclaimer, Your Content and Documents, Privacy and Data Processing, No AI Training, Document Storage and Deletion, Intellectual Property, Disclaimers of Warranty, Limitation of Liability, Governing Law and Disputes, and Contact Us.
18. Disclaimers of Warranty
